New Zealand musician Ladi6 has recently returned from Africa, a trip she describes as a journey of musical rediscovery.
She spent her time revisiting the places and people that inspired her to become a musician 16 years ago.
Now she's back and up for some of the major awards at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards on Thursday, including Album of the Year and Best Female Solo Artist.
Ladi6 says it's good to still be relevant, this far into her career.
"It just feels really good to still be around, you know? I'm just going to go on the night and just enjoy myself."
Despite her longevity, Ladi6 still feels like a newcomer at awards shows – even compared to teenager Lorde.
