Samantha Hayes will be the next co-presenter of Newshub Live at 6pm alongside Mike McRoberts, MediaWorks has announced.
Her appointment follows the departure of longtime newsreader Hilary Barry, who resigned in April and fronted her final Newshub and Paul Henry programmes on Friday.
"Samantha brings a wealth of experience across news and current affairs," MediaWorks's acting chief news officer Richard Sutherland says in a media release.
Hayes most recently presented Newshub Late, but she has previously worked as a reporter and presenter for other programmes including Newsworthy, 3D and Nightline. She also spent time as 3News's Australia Correspondent based in Sydney.
"Her considerable presenting talent and own unique style means she will be a fantastic co-host with Mike McRoberts weeknights at 6 o'clock," Mr Sutherland says.
"Hilary is leaving considerably big shoes to fill and I'm honoured to build on the trust she has helped create with Newshub," Hayes says.
"I've been working with TV3 since I was 17 years old in many different roles, and now I'm looking forward to joining Mike, and bringing New Zealanders the news each night supported by the strength of the Newshub team."
McRoberts says the "challenge of life after Hilary is a positive one".
"Sam continues our tradition of having strong reporters as presenters," McRoberts says. "I have no doubt she'll bring her experience as a correspondent and current affairs reporter into the Newshub mix."
Hayes will begin her new role on Monday.
MediaWorks has yet to announce a replacement for Hilary Barry's role as news presenter on Paul Henry on weekday mornings.
