Not content with having a reality TV star President, the Republican Party is now considering signing up rapper-singer Kid Rock.

The 'Bawitdaba' singer is a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, having previously backed failed candidates Mitt Romney and Ben Carson.

His name was bandied about at a Michigan Republican convention last weekend, US media reported.

Kid Rock, who once featured in a sex tape with Creed singer Scott Stapp, is yet to comment. A Republican Party rep told Fox News no one's officially asked him to run, but "he would be awesome".

Real name Robert Ritchie, Kid Rock is hugely popular in the US south, and used to fly the controversial Confederate flag at his shows.

He was born and raised in Michigan however, where both senators are Democrats, despite the state going Mr Trump's way in the 2016 election.

He identifies with the libertarian end of the Republican spectrum - and is a big fan of guns. In 2013 he told Rolling Stone he's "no fan of abortion, but it's not up to a man to tell a woman what to do".

He also told the magazine while he's an ordained minister and not looking forward to marrying gay couples, he's not opposed to gay marriage itself.

Kid Rock has sold more than 23 million albums over the last 20 years, shifting from rap into southern rock and even country.
