Suits actor Rick Hoffman says his character is a "douche" and he's constantly heartbroken by what he gets up to.
Suits is an American legal drama which follows a bright and talented college dropout working as a legal associate, despite never having attended law school.
Hoffman has played sarcastic lawyer Louis Litt, partner in the law firm, since season one. The show's currently in its sixth season.
Talking to The AM Show on Monday, Hoffman said despite the character's despicable traits, "all of [the Suits actors] have a little bit of the gene that's the character that we have".
For Hoffman, that's partly Litt's goofiness - but there's something lurking in his darker side too.
"I'm an observer of people… I can, for some reason, tap into those [darker] types of characters."
Hoffman said he's "freaking excited" to be in New Zealand.
"What do you reckon?" host Duncan Garner asked.
"I reckon that I just learned the term 'I reckon'," Hoffman replied.
Co-host Mark Richardson advised Hoffman to use "shot, bro" the next time someone does something nice.
"Shot, bro? Is 'bro' involved in that term?"
Hoffman likes his privacy. He has one child - a son born in 2014 - and we don't know much more about him.
But he told Garner he loves working on Suits, and it's great "just being in the running on a show people like".
"You get to do what you love, move to a great city like Toronto. I now have a two-year-old. I've met a Canadian woman, and I have a Canadian son… It's phenomenal."
He's become more comfortable with fame, but it can still be difficult.
"It's not something you get fully comfortable with because people are so bizarre at times."
The show also stars Prince Harry's girlfriend Meghan Markle. Hoffman stayed mum on Markle, but did offer a cryptic tease about the upcoming episodes.
"There may be a reason this beard is growing… That's a tease."
