Fans of James Cameron's 3D blockbuster Avatar will have to wait until the 2020s to get another fix.
A post on the movie's official Facebook page says the first sequel will be released on December 18, 2020. It'll be followed by a third on December 17, 2021; a fourth on December 20, 2024; and the fifth on December 19, 2025.
"We're not making Avatar 2," Cameron said in March. "We're making Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5. It's an epic undertaking."
Some fans weren't happy with the delay.
"So...before we get a second 'Avatar' movie, we'll probably be on Toy Story 7, Spiderman 16 and Grandson of Batman 4?" wrote Kent Daniels.
"Not sure I can honestly wait this long," said Lulu Shepe.
Many said Cameron was known for taking his time on films, but the results were usually worth it.
Avatar 2 was originally slated for release in 2012. That was knocked back to 2015, then to 2017, then to 2018.
The original is the biggest-grossing movie of all time, if inflation isn't accounted for. The second-placed film, Titanic, is also by James Cameron. The third is Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
