One of just two films to be brought out by Disney Pixar this year has received its third and final trailer ahead of its release - and it's the most revealing look at the Cars 3 narrative to date.
The latest instalment in the Cars franchise joins the ethereal new animated Pixar film Coco - unofficially dubbed 'the Mexican Moana' - as the only other movie to be put out by the iconic production company in 2017.
In previous trailers it's been made clear that protagonist Lightning McQueen suffers a debilitating crash while racing that leaves him on the cusp of total destruction.
The crash, we discover in the latest trailer, means the aging race car is forced to consider giving up on racing altogether, with a new focus placed on strengthening his legacy with merchandise.
However it becomes apparent that that's not an option for McQueen, and he is keen on making a comeback to the track - the only problem? The rise of a new racing superstar, Jackson Storm (voiced by Armie Hammer).
His young challenger doesn't feature heavily in the trailer, but it's clear that McQueen is keen on returning to the track to claim one last title before retiring and handing the mantle onto Storm.
McQueen (Owen Wilson) is joined by classic characters from earlier in the franchise like Mater (Daniel Whitney), Sally Carrera (Bonnie Hunt) and Ramone (Cheech Martin).
Cars 3 is scheduled for release on June 22 in New Zealand.
