It's time - the first trailer for the newest iteration of the Star Wars franchise has been released.
The trailer, along with a poster, made its debut early on Saturday morning (NZ time).
It promises the return of Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), opening with what appears to be Skywalker teaching Rey how to use the Force.
But it has a grim finale: "It's time for the Jedi to end," Skywalker's voice warns ominously.
Skywalker and his nephew, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), dominate the poster, pictured above Rey. It's a stark contrast to the poster for The Force Awakens, the opening act to this trilogy - which featured almost every main character in the film in some fashion.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set for a North American release on December 15, which likely means a December 14 release in New Zealand.
