Newshub sports presenter Nicky Styris' public naming and shaming of her husband, former Blackcap Scott Styris, for forgetting their wedding anniversary has backfired, with a romantic - albeit poorly made - dinner waiting for her at home.
Newshub Super Sport Sunday co-host Nicky used the 'moments of the week' segment of the show to out her husband.
"Thank you for remembering our special day. Oh, that's right - you didn't," she said at the end of the video.
"You wake up in the morning, it's your wedding anniversary and you think flowers, breakfast in bed y'know, things like that and nothing," she exclaimed live on air.
Its inclusion in the segment came as a surprise to co-host Andrew Gourdie, who took a few steps off camera to leave a scorned Nicky standing at the podium alone.
"I don't want to get in the middle of a domestic dispute," he joked.
But the joke was on her, with the cricketer-turned-commentator organising a home-cooked dinner.
Nicky says the couple have a relationship where "everything's a competition".
"I thought 'here's an opportunity to get him back'. But he must have been on to me."
Unbeknownst to her, Scott had posted a video to Facebook before he'd been shamed on national television, showing a dinner table with place settings.
"He tried to make a roast with some kind of marinade - it was chewier than leather," Nicky, the household's main cook, said of his efforts.
He'd also got her flowers from the local dairy.
"It was pretty bad."
