Tom Cruise can't wait to get back to 'beautiful' New Zealand

Tom Cruise is chomping at the bit to get back to New Zealand to film the new Mission Impossible movie.

The Top Gun star hasn't filmed in New Zealand since the Last Samurai, 15 years ago.

Speaking to Newshub on the red carpet at the premiere of his new film The Mummy on Tuesday night, Cruise had nothing but love for our little country.

"It'll be good to be back, I haven't been back - I came back for visiting a couple of times but I haven't filmed there" says Cruise.

He was full of praise for New Zealand, saying "it's a country filled with so many adventures, it's so beautiful."

"I've been telling the cast and crew just what a treat we're all in for."

Cruise says he'll be shooting near Queenstown for about a month, telling Newshub they've started building the film set in Glenorchy. He was otherwise tight-lipped over the plot - but did divulge one major spoiler.

"We go on a mission and... it's.... impossible" Cruise joked.

"I dunno how we're gonna work our way through it."

The Mummy opens in New Zealand cinemas on June 8.
