New Zealand's favourite music prodigy Lorde has continued her rise to global superstardom, her sophomore album Melodrama debuting at the top of the Billboard chart in the US.
It represents another shattered milestone for the Auckland songstress, with this being her first No. 1 album - after debut LP Pure Heroine peaked at No.3 in October 2013.

That first album actually did better than Melodrama in regards to album units sold in its first week - Pure Heroine selling 129,000 copies while her 2017 follow-up got 109,000.
But the achievement remains extraordinary as she had more competition this time around, with six albums also debuting at the same time as Melodrama - the most new LPs in almost eight months.
Lorde beats out 2 Chainz's Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, which debuted in second spot, while Kendrick Lamar's highly acclaimed DAMN., which came out in April, moved down to third.

The latest accolade caps off a spectacular few years for the 20-year-old singer-songwriter starting in 2013, when she catapulted from 'cool new Kiwi chick on the music scene' to world-renowned artist in a matter of months.
Since then, the 'Royals' hitmaker has gone from achievement to achievement, earning two Grammys in 2014, curating the music for a Hunger Games soundtrack and headlining Lollapalooza.
More recently, Lorde performed at Glastonbury Festival in England and won praise from audiences and critics for her "bold and brilliant" performance.
