It's being hailed as the coolest movie of 2017 and it opens in Kiwi cinemas on Thursday.
Baby Driver's got fast cars and a killer soundtrack, and while its director says it's jam-packed with action, crime and comedy, there's one thing the movie certainly is not.
British filmmaker Edgar Wright is very firm: he doesn't want to call his film a musical.
"Any time you mention the word 'musical', there's a certain percentage of dudes out there who think it's gonna be like Mamma Mia," he told Newshub.
"So I just want to say, it's not like Mamma Mia!"
Instead, Wright prefers to think of it as a "car movie driven by music". Unfortunately, star Ansel Elgort wasn't in agreement.
"[I'd call it] an action-heist… musical," he decided, to Wright's amusement.
Indeed, a Mamma Mia this movie is not. Baby Driver is a high-octane car chase heist movie set to the beat of Wright's own inimitable drum.
And in a US summer blockbuster season full to the brim with blockbusters, the fans and the critics love him for it.
"These are the films worth striving for," Wright said.
"I think it's so important that there's an original film out this summer and it's not part five of something, and there's no big robots or pirates - not mentioning any films specifically!"
Elgort didn't take long to tap into his inner bogan and says he was able to do some stunts himself.
"And that's everybody's dream. You know, everyone wants to be able to drift a car around and do some donuts and that kind of stuff," he said.
"And people who love cars have really responded to this movie."
Elgort's casting was a no-brainer for Wright - there's no fault in this star. And the 23-year-old knew a good script when he saw it.
"When I first read it was on an iPad, and I had the baby earbuds in, and I listened to the music while I read the script, which was really cool," he said.
Baby Driver accelerates into Kiwi cinemas on Thursday - and not a day too soon for the fans.
