Kit Harrington's performance as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones has become iconic, but he almost played a different character, according to Jimmy Fallon.
The American TV host played a video of the 30-year-old Englishman trying out for other notable roles in the fantasy show and insisted it was serious.
"[Jon Snow] wasn't the only part Kit was in the running for," said Fallon, introducing the video.
"He actually auditioned for a couple of other characters on the show, which now that we know him as Jon Snow is hard to imagine. The producers of Game of Thrones - Dan Weiss and David Benioff - gave us his audition tape... the exclusive, never-before-seen Kit Harrington screen tests."
Video then plays of a hapless Harrington doing comedic auditions for the roles of Hodor, Cersei Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Arya Stark, Ygritte, Daenerys Targaryen and a White Walker.
He even appears as Harry Potter in the clip, before being asked to leave.
Harrington's appearance with Fallon was to promote the new season of Game of Thrones, which premieres in the US on Sunday (local time).
