Grand Designs NZ 2017: The historic Dargaville homestead

  • 20/09/2017

The third season of Grand Designs New Zealand started with a shock on Tuesday night, as a family put their dream home on the market immediately after completing it.

Feisty mother-of-six Kelly Davidson persuaded her family to pursue her dream of replicating a Dargaville mansion she fell in love with as a child.

Husband Joe wanted a modern house, but then he never wanted six children either. Clearly, there is a leader in this relationship.

The family lived together in a two room cabin on their Helensville site, while Kelly rallied the entire extended family  and her underage labour force  to build the home of her dreams.

In a break from Grand Designs tradition, the home was completed $24,574 under budget, but much to everyone's surprise, it's gone straight on the market.

The Davidsons still want the house, but they've found an amazing piece of land and want to build exactly the same house  again.

The full episode can be viewed on ThreeNow.co.nz and photos from inside the home can be viewed below.

Grand Designs NZ is broadcast on Three on Tuesdays at 7:30pm.
