Ash Brownrigg has skied all around the world and always dreamed of owning a traditional European log home like the ones he has seen on the alps.

He even tried building one himself on the shores of Lake Rotorua, but wasn’t happy with the result.
The trouble is, log cabins don't look quite right in your average New Zealand suburban setting.
But Mr Brownrigg found the perfect spot in Horopito, at the base of Mt Ruapehu, and tonight's Grand Designs New Zealand episode followed the journey of his log home being constructed by a company that uses traditional techniques.
