Netflix officially severs ties with Kevin Spacey

Embattled Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey has been cast out by Netflix in a stunning move that will mean wholesale changes for hit show House of Cards, which he starred in.

In a statement sent out to media, the entertainment company says it will also be canning the production of Gore, a biographical film the American Beauty star was expected to produce and star in.

The announcement comes after mass speculation in the wake of four bombshell claims of sexual misconduct that have been levelled at the Oscar winner over the past week.

"Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey," a Netflix spokesperson told Newshub.

"We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey."

The termination of Gore will not rock Netflix anywhere as much as Spacey's absence from House of Cards, which is one of its most successful series.

Until this point Spacey has starred in the show as Frank Underwood, but there are rumours his in-series wife, Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright, will now take over as the series' lead character.

However, Netflix it is still in the process of working out which route it takes with the series, which was heading into its climactic final season when the news of Spacey's alleged sexual misconduct broke.

"We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show," the Netflix spokesperson says.
