Take That admit New Zealand tour has been 'embarrassingly long' time coming

Three out of five of the original members of boy band Take That are currently in New Zealand, and they admit it's taken "embarrassingly long" to get here.

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen told Three's The Project on Tuesday they're excited to be performing to fans in Aotearoa.

"We were just in Australia where we haven't toured for 23 years but embarrassingly we've never toured NZ," Barlow said.

"But we're here now and looking forward to seeing the crowds tonight."

Take That has scored 56 No.1 hits and 35 No 1 albums worldwide since the start of their lifespan at the dawn of the 90. They lost original members Jason Orange and Robbie Williams to solo careers along the way, but Donald says there's no bad blood in the team.

"We've always said the door is open for Robbie and Jason to come back. But we've done two albums as a three, we've toured as three, and it does feel very comfortable… so we're good where we are at the moment."

So what can Kiwi fans expect from the shows; firstly in Wellington tonight and Auckland on Wednesday?

"I think one of the big things when you're doing these shows - [especially] as we've not performed here before - is getting the set-list right," Owen said.

"We've taken a lot of time to get songs in people would know from the 90s up to present day. We go from 1991 to 2017.

"Normally we have a big production but it's been really nice to the intimacy of us, and the band and the audience."
