The holiday season is a time for family, even brand new ones. That's the case for our Married At First Sight NZ success story Brett and Angel Renall, who are officially moving in together just in time for Christmas.

With Angel making her way down the country to Christchurch, Brett spoke to Newshub about how it feels to finally have her as a permanent fixture in his Canterbury home, where the Christmas tree is already up but waiting to be decorated by his wife.

"We haven't rushed the moving-in stage," he told Newshub from Lincoln. "Angel's been down almost every weekend since the show finished, and we had her Nana's 90th birthday [up in Wellington] last week. But we've crammed so much into that short space of time, it's pretty crack up to think about."

The pair have become a fan favourite since they made it as the only couple to last on the reality show, but Brett says the levels of fame are uneven.

"I work in a farm shed which I live down the road from, so I tend to avoid the public eye," he laughed. "But Angel, she's the celeb. Everyone follows her Instagram and wants photos. Whenever anyone stops me I get a lot of 'where's Angel?' but I don't think she gets a lot of 'where's Brett?'"

Excited to meet Brett's new wife are many of his family members, including a couple of aunties who weren't at the wedding and "are absolutely fizzing".

"They act like they know her because they've watched the show," Brett explained. "But they've never actually met her so it's going to be pretty funny."

"We're having a big family lunch all the nieces and nephews and stuff. Then home to have leftovers for dinner  just a pretty standard day really. "

Anyone who watched the show will remember the series of wooden signs Brett made a his new wife for their wedding, with a list of all the meaningful places he wanted to take her.

Now the only one left to tick off is Wanaka, which Brett says is the first order of business for 2018.

"We've got a holiday planned with about five us going down so we're just going to hang out there and chill out," he said.

"To be honest, all we really want to do is just reflect on the past few months and really celebrate it  with the stress of the show we haven't had a chance yet."
