Nicki Minaj has hit back at social media users who were outraged by her pointing out that the US hip-hop chart is currently dominated by white men.

The 'Anaconda' rapper posted an image of the iTunes chart showing seven of the top 10 spots were taken by Eminem, Post Malone, Macklemore, G-Eazy and Machine Gun Kelly.

Minaj captioned it: "It's a great time to be a white rapper in America huh?"

In response, people accused her of racism, of 'blaming the white man' and of bleaching her own skin white, amongst other abusive messages.

The reaction was intense enough for Minaj to respond with a message on Instagram attached to a video of J Cole talking about hip-hop culture shifting to being white-dominated.

"Whenever a black woman speaks on ANYTHING she's labelled 'mad', 'angry' and 'bitter'," she said.

"I'm blessed and highly favoured, thanks to my amazing fans. But I'll speak on whatever the f**k I want to, whenever the f**k I want to. I love being a smart, successful woman. It's never been cool or funny to be illiterate or uninterested in your own industry and how it works."

Minaj has since deleted both Instagram posts, but the outrage on Twitter has continued.
