New Zealand singer Stan Walker has shared a trailer for a documentary about his turbulent health over the past year.

He released the trailer via Instagam, writing that this is "the biggest thing [he's] ever had to share with the world".

Last year Walker discovered that he has the same rare cancer-causing gene mutation that had affected his mum - as well as 25 members of his wider family who have died as a result.

An estimated four out of five people who have the CDH1 gene mutation will develop stomach cancer.

It is thought Walker may have had his stomach removed as a pre-emptive measure.

The trailer features Walker undergoing numerous medical procedures, interspersed with confessional video diary entries.

"What if I can't sing again... It's like a curse, it's quite scary, the unknown," he says.

In the documentary, titled Stan, the 27-year-old entertainer lets the public in on his most intimate moments over his 'life-changing' past nine months.

Stan will be broadcast on Three in March.
