Molly the kitten has been making herself at home at the Manurewa police station after she was rescued by an officer early this morning.
Police officer Gaylene Rice is used to calls for help, but at 6:45am today it was the cry of a distressed cat that sent her investigating.
As she made her way to the station she could hear a cat meowing near a clothing donation bin. She paused, and went to follow the lead - which led her to Molly.
The tiny kitten quickly became the most popular member of the police station's staff.
Later in the day, Molly was adopted by a North Shore couple.
But Molly's new family already have a dog called Molly - so the little police kitten might need a new identity as she settles into her new life.
