Timaru's Mayor insists his town won't be adopting the slogan "Timaz Hard" anytime soon.
A $120,000 council project to replace the town's entrance signs is underway. An unofficial poll of residents has put the slogan 'Timaz Hard' on top -- winning more than half of the 189 votes.
But Timaru Mayor Damon Odey told Paul Henry this morning it won't be happening. He was concerned another councilor had spotted the slogan tattooed on naked men.
"It's not the coolest," he says.
"I think slogans are a wee bit of a tricky one, everyone knows how cool we are so maybe that's our slogan -- "Hey Timaru's pretty cool"."
A mayoral forum has suggested placing Chinese greetings on the signs such as Ni hao. Road safety messages like 'keep left' may also be considered.
