Organisers of a national mufti day hope those involved will empty their pockets to help raise $350,000 for a 12-year-old Canterbury girl needing a new kidney.
At least 33 schools and businesses are taking part to raise money for Maddie Collins, with organiser Pete Burdon saying she's already had one failed transplant.
"She's back on dialysis, 10 hours a night, so you can imagine what stress that causes in the family.
"There's also been problems with the dialysis machine, so it's been a pretty full-on time."
She only has a 2 percent chance of finding a donor match in New Zealand, so Mr Burdon wants to take her to the US.
He says non-mufti wearers can still donate to Maddie's cause at https://www.mediatrainingnz.co.nz/maddie, and supporters can follow her progress on Facebook.
