An Auckland woman had an exciting encounter when she came face to face with an orca this afternoon.
Michelle Karanui, 29, posted a video on Facebook of the moment she and a friend were within touching distance of a killer whale playing in the harbour.
Ms Karanui says there were about six of the whales playing in the water at Bayswater marina, with the star of the video playing in the shallows, possibly chasing a stingray.
"He was putting on a good show" Ms Karanui said.
It was her first time seeing an orca in the flesh.
She and her friend can be heard squealing with excitement in the video as they run along the marina.
The video had over 2500 views on Tuesday evening.
