In the midst of Pride celebrations across Aotearoa, we asked Kiwis to reflect on their coming out experiences.
Coming out was different for everyone. For some it was a loving and positive experience, but for others it was a serious struggle.
And for many, it never ends - it happens again and again in new situations.
While the Marriage (Definition of Marriage) Amendment Act passed in 2013, allowing same sex couples to marry, there are still many barriers and injustices faced by members of the queer community.
We also asked our respondents to share their messages for the younger generation and for people who are struggling with their gender, sexuality and identity.
