The search for a diver missing off the Canterbury coast has been suspended for the night.
Police say the diver was experienced and went for a dive at 10:40am on Sunday with two others.
They were supposed to resurface at 11am but when one didn't, they were reported overdue at 12pm.
The trio were diving around 7.5 nautical miles north of Motunau Beach.
An air search by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and a water search by the Coastguard have failed to find the diver.
The police dive squad will resume the search on Monday.
