The Lucas Creek waterfall in Auckland's Albany has been turned into a thundering torrent as a deluge of rain hits the city.
Video of the dramatic falls was posted by YouTube by user Taubin.
"That is insane! Holy crap! Wow! Would you frickin' look at that!" he says.
"Man this water is high, it's really coming down. Man, that's insane."
The footage shows water rushing over the edge of the waterfall into a churning pool.
"Normally this is barely coming over and its pretty dry up there," he says.
"There's times you could walk right across but certainly not now, I'd hate to fall into that."
