A 30 metre spider web, created by thousands of spiders, has been spotted in Papamoa, Tauranga.
Tracey Maris stumbled upon the web on Sunday, when she saw a hill glistening in the distance.
"It was really great seeing the web, we were down below the mound on the football field and there was a bright glistening coming from the top of the mound - it looked almost like the hill was sparkling but we were unsure why," she told Newshub.
"So my 10-year-old daughter and I raced up to look and were shocked to learn it was all spider web. Kind of yuck, but really beautiful at the same time."
About 30 metres of the hillside was covered in a spider web, with thousands of little spiders inside it.
"It looked like it went from the top, stretching right through to Papamoa College, which is around 30 metres away at a guess, and it was about 2-3 metres wide at the thickest area."
Ms Maris says she screamed "pretty loudly" when she realised there were spiders inside.
"The web was really sticky and clung to all of us."
Her stepson stood inside the web and had spiders crawling over him.
Ms Maris took photos and video of the web, she says they're not very clear as spiders freak her out.
Not long after the video, a dog ran through the web and it started to break up.
The family went back on Monday morning to find that the web is mainly gone.
"So for me, it was being at the right place at the right time yesterday to see a phenomenon which is rarely seen," Ms Maris says.
