New Zealand Fashion Week could have its first transgender model make their way down the catwalk at this year's event.
Preparations are well underway, with casting beginning this weekend.
Eighteen-year-old Auckland-based model Manahou Mackay insists she's ready for the challenge, adding that it'll be an honour to be the first.
"I'm not against being branded a transgender model but I don't want people to just see me as transgender model - I'm just a person who happens to be transgender. It's not my brand or anything, it's just an afterthought, I think."
Fashion Week begins in Auckland on August 28.
