Green Party leader James Shaw knows his reo.
To celebrate Te Wiki o te reo Māori, The AM Show is quizzing party leaders on their grasp of the language.
On Monday, Prime Minister Bill English confessed he couldn't count to 10 in te reo Māori , while Labour leader Jacinda Ardern scored five out of nine in the quiz on Tuesday.
James Shaw was ready for the test, urging AM Show host Duncan Garner to "go for it".
Mr Shaw easily recalled the Māori words for treaty (tiriti), river (awa), green (kākāriki), stay strong (kia kaha), and women (wahine), and only forgot one word - sovereignty (tino rangatiratanga).
But when asked to count to 10, the Green Party leader later acknowledged he was "hopeless" at remembering numbers in te reo Māori.
Mr Shaw scored five out of six in the quiz.
