It may not surprise Cantabrians to hear rainfall this year has been above average, and the MetService is warning it's not over yet.
Meteorologist Georgina Griffiths says the entire year may be headed towards breaking records.
"We're on track to be in the top handful of very wet years," she told Newshub.
"What's typically seen over the whole 12 months already happened in Christchurch at the start of September."
Ms Griffiths says this year, the weather has been more volatile than usual. Typically spring temperatures can change a lot; Ms Griffiths believes that 2017 spring temperatures have been even more changeable than in an average year.
Canterbury has also had 1000 fewer sunshine hours than it had by this time last year.
