Nine people have been taken to hospital after a large group of cyclists crashed in Leeston, near Christchurch.
Two people were transported by helicopter - one in a serious condition and the other moderate.
The seven others have minor injuries.
A St John spokesperson told Newshub there were about 40 cyclists riding in the group.
The cyclists were racing at the time in a weekly event with traffic management in place.
The accident happened on Thursday evening and the ambulance was called at around 7:45pm.
