If you had $10 to spend on Jacinda Ardern, what would you buy her?

One New Zealander will have to figure that out this Christmas - while another lucky Kiwi will receive a gift from our very own Prime Minister.

Ms Ardern has put her name down for a countrywide secret Santa movement, where complete strangers buy each other presents.

"So you may have noticed I don't tweet especially often (I just lurk)," Ms Ardern said on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.

"But as a ridiculous lover of Christmas, I couldn't miss the chance to join the @nzsecretsanta movement.

"Registration ends tomorrow so feel free to join in my over the top Christmas cheer."

Here's how it works - Players register their Twitter name with New Zealand Post, and are then given another player's name to buy a gift for in return.

Those who enter scroll through their recipient's Twitter feed to try and figure out what they like and dislike.

Sam Elton-Walters started the movement in 2010 and says it's "epic" Ms Ardern is on board.

Registration closes on Wednesday November 22. After the Prime Minister's Tweet NZ Secret Santa says there was an influx of registrations - meaning this year there are more secret Santas than ever.
