An Auckland woman's beloved dog has been returned to her just days before Christmas.
Bonnie McMaster, 21, was dropping off a present to a friend's house in New Lynn, West Auckland on Friday when her car was stolen.
Queenie, her eight-year-old fox terrier-cross-cavalier King Charles spaniel was in the back seat.
Ms McMaster was distraught, saying she wasn't worried about the belongings - she just wanted her dog home.
But, just like something out of a festive film, Ms McMaster told Newshub Queenie was returned on Saturday morning.
She received a message from customers in a Glen Eden cafe that Queenie had been spotted, and from there multiple people joined the hunt for the dog.
Eventually Ms McMaster received a call from an acquaintance that Queenie had been found, and despite the ordeal, seemed okay.
It seems she was dumped once the thief realised she was there.
When she was returned she was ecstatic, wagging her tail and running around in circles to greet her owners.
Ms McMasters' red Toyota corolla, number plate UL2515, is yet to be found. Ms McMaster says anyone that sees it should contact the police.
