SkyCity's annual public fireworks display led the world in welcoming 2018 on Sunday.
Following a large laser countdown, nearly 3,000 shots were fired off Auckland's iconic Sky Tower in a near-six minute show.
As 2017 marked the tower's 20th birthday year, crowds were also treated to performances by Sons of Zion on Federal St below, while Che Fu and King Kapisi's versatile duo HedLok Live brought in the New Year at SkyCity's bar, twentyone.
SkyCity spokesman Brad Burnett said the Sky Tower fireworks display is an important focal point for the city's celebrations.
"The fireworks top off a massive night for SkyCity, with around 30,000 visitors coming to enjoy our entertainment, restaurants and bars, free concert on Federal St and the best view of the fireworks in Auckland,
"SkyCity is proud to deliver the annual Sky Tower fireworks display that's enjoyed by locals and visitors across various vantage points in Auckland, and watched by many millions more via internet and TV broadcast.
"It's particularly special this year, the Sky Tower's 20th birthday year," he said.
The 2018 fireworks display was the work of six pyrotechnicians, who spent 350 hours on site setting up the show.
