A Department of Conservation worker has found a message in a bottle that washed ashore at Rangitoto Island in the Hauraki Gulf.

The message was sent in a blue glass bottle by a young girl from Auckland named Olivia.

It reads: "To whoever finds this message. I am Olivia Brown. I am ten years old. I am from Auckland New Zealand. I live with my mum, dad, sister and my 4 pets Milo, my dog Moby, my Cat Milly, and Gobly my goldfish."

She threw the bottle into the sea on February 26, 2017.

DOC posted photos of the recovered bottle and message on Twitter and said it was found by Rangitoto Island ranger Charlie.

"Does anyone know Olivia? Share this and help us find her," DOC said.

Rangitoto is a pest-free volcanic island 11km off the coast from Auckland. It's a popular tourist destination with walking tracks, a 4WD road-train and lava caves.
