One person has died and two others have been hospitalised after an incident at Waimarama Beach near Hastings.
Police were called to the beach shortly before 7pm on Sunday after three people got into difficulty in the water.
One person died after being recovered fro the water.
One of the other two people was helicoptered to Hawke's Bay Hospital with moderate injuries, while the other person suffered only minor issues.
St John Ambulance could not confirm to Newshub if the deceased person drowned in the event.
