The worst-affected suburbs may not get power back until the weekend, electricity provider Vector estimates. These suburbs are Alfriston, Bayswater, Browns Bay, Devonport, Grenhithe, Homai, Kawakawa Bay, Murrays Bay, New Windsor, Newmarket, Northpark, Paremoremo, Parkhurst, Parnell, Silverdale, Sunnyvale, and Te Atatu.
Vector says it is also working to restore larger outages in west Auckland, including in Bethells Beach, Piha, Riverhead and Kaukapakapa.
These outages aren't likely to be fixed before mid-next week, as Vector says they are more remote and often connected by single power lines through rugged bush.
Other Auckland suburbs are expected to have power back on by Friday at the latest.
Aucklanders can check what date their suburb is likely to have power returned on Vector's website.
Vector is reminding Aucklanders not to attempt to cut or move trees that are in contact with power lines, and to always treat downed lines as live.
