Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was killed in south Auckland on Tuesday morning.
Police were called out at 6am to Greenwood Road in Mangere after reports two people were lying on the ground.
A 28-year-old man was discovered dead at the scene and a woman had gunshot wounds. She was rushed to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.
Detective Inspector Faa Va'aelua says police are talking to the victim to find out what happened.
"We are confident that this is not a random incident and we are currently following positive lines of enquiries to identify two Tongan male offenders believed to be involved in this incident," he says.
A cordon will remain in place today on Greenwood Rd while staff carry out a scene examination and a forensic analysis of a vehicle located at the scene.
