Two people are in a critical condition after a train and vehicle collided in Ngāruawāhia on Sunday night.
Emergency services were called to Princess St at 10:10pm.
"Two people from the vehicle are in a critical condition," said Insp Jason Greenhalgh.
"Part of Princess St will be closed until at least the early hours."
Motorists are asked to avoid the area, and the serious crash unit will investigate.
