A man's body has been found on Brighton Beach, south of Dunedin.
The body was located at 10am on Friday morning by a local, Southern District Inspector Steve Wood says.
It is too early to say if the man's death is suspicious, it is currently being treated as unexplained.
Police are investigating the death on behalf of the coroner.
People are asked to avoid the beach and public access to the beach is currently restricted.
