Bus passengers passing by a truck and trailer unit fire in Makikihi, south Canterbury have been left in awe of the blaze.
The truck that was carrying milk powder caught fire shortly after 7:30am on State Highway One on Friday morning.
The truck driver managed to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road near the Makikihi pub while it was on fire, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) spokesperson told Newshub.
At least 16 firefighters battled the blaze.
Passengers on a bus passing by watched in amazement as the truck became engulfed in flames.
Meanwhile, another two rural fires in the same region have been brought under control.
One fire started in a hedge on Looker Road near Orari.
The other blaze near Temuka was caused by an out of control burn off.
Fire crews are also standby for weather related call outs in the Marlborough area where it's tinder-dry.
