A car fire has significantly delayed motorists headed towards the city on Auckland's southern motorway.
The New Zealand Travel Agency is warning motorists headed through Drury and Papakura to expect significant delays as the scene is cleared.
"Due to a car fire in Rosehill, between Drury and Papakura, the left northbound lane is currently BLOCKED. Emergency services on-site. Please expect significant delays in both directions and allow extra time for your journey," a spokesperson said.
Video of the incident shows smoke billowing into the air and the car completely engulfed in fire, sitting on the side of the motorway.
Witnesses to the incident say traffic has been severely impacted by the fire.
"Traffic into the city around Drury is backed up for several kilometres. We saw a burnt out car, burned to a crisp, fire engines and stuff. Miles and miles and miles of traffic and a standstill," one person told Newshub.
"We're past Drury now and it's still a carpark."
