The pilot of a missing light plane has been found dead.
The two-seater aircraft had just one person on board. The alarm was raised just after 4pm on Friday when it failed to arrive as planned at Ardmore Airport.
The Rescue Coordination Centre says weather conditions at the time were poor and prevented an aerial search by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
A ground search has been underway in the Coromandel Forest Park began at first light. The plane was found around 10am on Saturday by LandSAR staff.
The death will be referred to the coroner and the Civil Aviation Authority will investigate the crash.
