One person is dead following a light plane crash at Lake Ellesmere, in Canterbury.
The plane was found around 11:20pm on Thursday after a search effort by police and the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCCNZ).
Only the victim was in the plane at the time of the crash.
The crash will be investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority.
The death will be referred to the coroner.
