A surfer's body was found on Monday on Dunedin's St Clair Beach, police say.
Emergency services were called about 6:30pm, to the popular surfing beach about 5km from Dunedin's CBD.
"Police were notified around 6:30pm last night that a member of the public had located the body of a male surfer in the water at St Clair," a spokesperson said on Tuesday.
A police investigation would now take place on behalf of the coroner, the spokesperson said.
"The coroner will release their finding in due course."
