A man has been arrested after acting "suspiciously" around a central Auckland train station on Tuesday morning.

Police said in a statement they were called to the incident at Newmarket train station just after 9:30am.

Police said they received a report of a man acting in an aggressive manner towards other members of the public at the station.

Newshub understands a dispute arose when a couple attempted to board the southern line without tickets.

"No reports of any injuries as a result. The man is being spoken to by police and we cannot rule out the possibility of charges being laid," the statement said.

Auckland Transport said the incident at the station has been cleared but warned of further delays and cancellations as trains return to their normal timetables.
