ACT Party leader David Seymour made a bit of a cock-up during a media stand up outside Parliament when talking about the Red Peak flag.
A 50,000-strong petition calling for its inclusion in the flag referendum was handed over to Mr Seymour, Labour MP Jacinda Ardern, Greens MP Gareth Hughes and Maori Party co-leader Marama Fox.
A strong proponent of the Red Peak flag, Mr Seymour was asked whether he would change his silver fern pin on his lapel to his favoured ensign.
"You don't actually have to have every national logo on your flag. The French, for instance, love the cock," he said before bursting into laughter along with the reporters with him.
"Let's start that again."
After composing himself, he continued: "The English have the rose, that's not on their flag".
He also said the Irish don't have a harp on theirs either.
Mr Seymour was referring to the well-known Gallic rooster symbol, and used by sports brand Le Coq Sportif and the mascot for French rugby.
