New Zealand will almost certainly get its first refugee MP, according to the newest Green Party list.
Newshub understands Auckland barrister Golriz Ghahraman, originally from Iran, has been boosted into a winnable spot on the Green Party list which is released on Tuesday.
She's joined in her ascent by fellow young female candidate and former Auckland mayoral candidate Chlöe Swarbrick.
Ms Ghahraman was previously ranked at number 15 and Ms Swarbrick at number 13.
The moves were made on a provisional list which has since been voted on by party members.
The jump-up the ranks for the two newbies will come at the expense of several men, including some long-standing MPs.
