Police say Saturday was a wet but quiet night in Whangarei, despite rival gang members descending on Northland to fight each other.
A number of gangs, normally violent rivals, were at the Portland Recreation Centre, south of the city for the Te Tai Tokerau Fight Night, an organised boxing event aimed at ending inter-gang violence which has resulted in a number of deaths in Northland in recent years.
Are such events a good idea?
