Champion boxer Wladimir Klitschko announces retirement

Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko has announced he's retiring, dashing Anthony Joshua's hopes of a rematch in Las Vegas.

Klitschko, 41, was champion of the heavyweight division for almost 10 years, before a devastating loss to Tyson Fury in 2015.

After an 18-month lay-off, he faced off with Joshua at Wembley Stadium.

But he was knocked out in the penultimate round, and now there won't be a rematch.

"At some point in our lives we need to, or just want to, switch our careers and just get us ready for the next chapter and chart any course towards fresh challenges. Obviously, I am not an exception to this," Klitschko said in a video statement.

He said he was retiring with the "greatest respect" for the new challengers and he's excited for his next career.

Klitschko confirmed his retirement in a statement released on his website, but the site's crashed due to demand.
